For 2023, Boston Whaler will add yet another impressive model to their line-up -- the redesigned 280 Dauntless. The boat will sport a new look from the keel up, including a sleeker hull style and a multitude of new tech. The new 280 will also serve as the flagship for the Dauntless series, which also includes the 220 and 250 sizes.

Typical of all Whaler designs, the 280 Dauntless is more than a bay boat and brings with it an intelligent layout catering to cruising, fishing, and watersports. There is an equal array of both offshore and inshore capability, as seen by its classic Whaler hull shape and ample length mixed with its entertainment and comfort-focused interior.

“Dauntless was a winner from the line’s first introduction, back in 2004,” said Mark Robinson, program manager, Boston Whaler. “Some boaters wanted a crossover boat, equally at home in back bays, a bit offshore and everywhere in between, and Dauntless delivered. This new evolution, now complete for the 220, 250 and 280 Dauntless, brings next-level sophistication to the design, functionality and capability of these adventurous boats. With all that our new 280 has to offer, it really is a good day to be Dauntless.”

According to the company press release, inspiration for the 280 Dauntless was built around entertainment and comfort. The classic open bow layout allows for movement from bow to stern, which caters well to families spending a day on the water, as well as for entertaining guests while exploring your local waterway. For fishing enthusiasts, free reign of the entire platform will come in handy while reeling in the keepers.

Improvements to the seating and layout include a spacious lounge in front of the console, as well as port and startboard seating with pull-up backrests near the bow. There is also a flip-up bench seat for two passengers on the stern deck.

At the helm, the convertible helm seat includes electric actuation to quickly convert into an aft facing seat at the push of a button. Other features include multiple cup holders, a bow table, and cooler space. The large stern platform makes for easy boarding from the dock or the water, and includes a retractable boarding ladder on the starboard side. An optional swim patio provides swimmers convenient access to the water.

For anglers, the 280 Dauntless includes a large casting platform, a 19-gallon livewell, a large fishbox with pump-out and increased storage capacity throughout the boat. An optional full glass windshield protects the helm from the elements, and an outrigger package is available to enhance offshore capability.

Other premium features include a deluxe leaning post, gyro stabilizer, and a freshwater sink. An optional PTX shade provides complete cockpit coverage. The 280 also includes a smart technology package that includes Simrad navigation electronics, JL Audio controls, amps and speakers, and digital switching.

“Boston Whalers are designed to open up your on-water world and the all-new 280 Dauntless expands on that with gusto,” said Kris Neff, president, Boston Whaler. “This is a no limits boat that puts adventure within easy reach. If you want to go for it, the 280 Dauntless won’t hold you back. See more, do more, enjoy more with the evolved 280 Dauntless.”

Power options come in the form of Mercury outboards in either single or dual configurations. For dual engine configuration, owners can choose between twin 250 or twin 300 hp engines in white or black, both with joystick piloting options.
