Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP) has sold Alumacraft to Bryton Marine Group and Telwater to Yamaha Motor. BRP has sold two well-known commodities from their marine portfolio as the company continues to divest from the marine industry. BRP announced in October 2024 that they would be selling their entire marine portfolio to focus on its Sea-Doo brand and its powersports and jet propulsion products. BRP first acquired Alumacraft in 2018. The well-known Alumacraft boat brand has been sold to Bryton Marine Group -- America's largest privately owned aluminum boatbuilder -- whose portfolio includes Duckworth, Kingfisher, and Eaglecraft, and others.
Telwater, another BRP-owned brand based out of Australia, has been sold to Yamaha Motor Australia, a subsidiary of Yamaha Motor. The Telwater portfolio includes the Quintrex, Stacer, and Savage brands.
Regarding the Alumacraft sale, BRP President and CEO José Boisjoli said in a press release: "I am proud of the strong foundation we have built over the years for this iconic brand, and happy to have found the right buyer for Alumacraft."
"The family-owned Bryton Marine Group has been in business for decades and we believe that their core values and culture will enable Alumacraft employees to unlock the full potential of the business. We sincerely thank the employees for their dedication, and wish them the very best in this next journey."
Bryton Marine Group specializes in manufacturing aluminum boats from 17 to 150 feet. The company manufactures for commercial and government organizations, as well as a large segment of recreational sportfishing across North America. Bryton is family-owned and has operations in Washington State and British Columbia, Canada. The Alumacraft headquarters is in St. Peter Minnesota.
Byron Bolton, CEO of Bryton Marine Group, said: "We are thrilled to acquire the Alumacraft marine business from BRP. This expansion of our North American boat building brand footprint supports our growth and long term ownership objectives."
"For more than 75 years, Alumacraft has been part of family memories. Its heritage is strong in the marine community and we can't wait to continue growing the brand worldwide. We look forward to welcoming to the Bryton family Alumacraft's talented employees and loyal dealers. They have been instrumental in building the brand's reputation for quality and innovation."
The BRP Alumacraft transaction is expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter.
Australia-based Telwater will now fall under the domain of Yamaha Motor Australia as BRP also transitions away from its ownership. Telwater has a longstanding presence in the Australian recreational boat market having been founded in 1983.
"We are pleased with today's announcement, our first transaction in the process for the sale of our Marine businesses," said BRP President José Boisjoli in another press release.
"I would like to sincerely thank all of the talented employees for their contribution and commitment over the years. We know we can count on their professionalism to continue supporting our dealers and customers with dedication through this transition period, until the transaction is completed." The transaction of Telwater is subject to regulatory approval and is expected to be completed in the second quarter of BRP's fiscal 2026. #news #brp #seadoo #alumacraft #telwater
