There are few companies that can boast a history as rich as Chris-Craft. With origins dating back to 1874, a time legitimately known as the Gilded Age, few companies, let alone those in the marine industry, have survived let alone flourished.
Despite the road bumps one naturally accumulates during 150 years in business, the inimitable boat builder has consistently stayed at the forefront of the industry.
Not only did the company increase production capacity by 50% in early 2023, they've also continued to push boundaries by constantly adding new designs and new tech to their extensive portfolio. The company was purchased by Winnebago Industries in 2018 and have already expanded their new manufacturing facility in Sarasota, Florida.
At the recent Miami International Boat Show, the company made yet another bold statement by launching a 150th Anniversary Edition Launch 27 -- a shining example of the company's rich heritage and consistently stunning design aesthetic.
"As we celebrate 150 years of Chris-Craft, we’re proud to introduce a special edition of our iconic Launch 27. In addition to our signature deep v-hull, reverse transoms, hand-selected teak and meticulous attention to detail, the anniversary Launch 27 is distinguished by an aquamarine trim, which pays homage to our heritage, and a bespoke 150th anniversary burgee and steering wheel hub," Steve Heese, Chris-Craft President, told BoatBlurb.
"2024 is all about honoring our legacy of excellence, while also innovating to reach the next generation of boating enthusiasts. Later this Spring, we’ll launch an all-new line of Chris-Craft’s focusing on just that. We are looking forward to continuing our legacy creating unforgettable memories on the water,” he added.
The company also hinted that the150th anniversary boat was only one of two Chris-Craft products launching in 2024.
Distinguished by a signature aquamarine trim that harkens back to the signature colors incorporated early in Chris-Craft's history the Special Edition Launch 27 pays homage to the brand’s legacy. Each anniversary boat also comes equipped with a150th burgee and a non-rotating steering wheel cap with the embedded company logo.
The anniversary edition Launch 27 also features the hallmarks of Chris-Craft’s approach to boatbuilding, including a signature deep-V hull, reverse transoms, classic lines, hand-selected teak, and an exceptional attention to detail.

The Launch 27 features an LOA of 26'8" with an 8'6" beam for easy trailerability, not to mention plush seating for up to 10 passengers and a host of high-end appointments. As one would expect, teak wood accents are present throughout the boat, from the cup holders to the anchor locker and cockpit steps. Power is available from multiple V8 Mercury and Volvo engines ranging from 300 to 430 horsepower. Founded by Christopher Columbus Smith in 1874, the Chris-Craft story has deep ties to American economic history. From pioneering engine-propelled boats and skiffs in Algonac, Michigan in the late 1800s to contributing over 12,000 vessels to the U.S. military during World War II, Chris-Craft's connection to American industry is unparalleled. Their boats have been owned by the likes of Franklin D. Roosevelt, Frank Sinatra, Katherine Hepburn, and John F. Kennedy.
